New MOU with Thailand
18 May 2022

On Wednesday 18th May, Care for Children’s Founder and Executive Director, together with Care for Children colleagues, were in Bangkok, Thailand with the Department of Children and Youth (DCY) in the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security to sign a new three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

This MOU signals the fourth and final stage of Care for Children’s project with the Royal Government of Thailand.

Despite the disruption caused by COVID, the third project stage between 2019 – 2021 successfully trained all 77 government Emergency and Shelter Homes with our family placement training programme. This is in addition to the 30 government Child Welfare Homes (orphanages) that Care for Children has been training since the second project stage that began in 2015. Now that the foundations have been laid and prepared, the goal for this next project stage is to increase awareness of family placement in society nationwide.

The shared goals of this new MOU can be summarised as follows:

  1. To ensure all orphans and vulnerable children can be placed into families
  2. To raise public awareness of foster care at national level
  3. To further develop knowledge and skills through training

Director-General of the Department of Children and Youth, Mrs Jatuporn Rojanaparnich, thanked Care for Children in her speech:

“The Department of Children and Youth under the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security want to express our thankfulness to Care for Children for their cooperation in helping vulnerable children who are under the care of the government as we partner together for the next three years... We are commitment and dedicated to ensuring that children are raised to be safe and happy, and that they receive care within a family, which we know is the very best environment for children.”

Robert took the opportunity to look forward at the shared goals:

“Today we look towards the future and the next phase of our partnership. We want to focus our efforts on promoting national awareness of the need for more local foster families, which will include a nationwide media campaign to support the call for families to provide loving homes for vulnerable children.”
