IKEA Foundation Partnership Announcement
8 March 2017

We are incredibly pleased to announce a new 3-year grant and partnership with The IKEA Foundation, which commenced in January 2017. The grant will help us continue our vital work in China and Thailand.

Over the last three years, with the support of The IKEA Foundation, Care for Children has made significant progress towards our ‘vision for a million’ children in family-based care through our China and Thailand projects.

The China project reached a significant milestone at the end of 2014 when the government passed legislation to ensure all orphaned and abandoned children have the opportunity to grow up within a family. This new project will establish five project sites as best practice examples of family placement, which will also serve as regional training hubs, whereby they will be able to inspire, train and support other, smaller care institutions within their region.

In Thailand, having successfully concluded the pilot project stage and started the process of rolling out the National Foster Care Project to all government-run care institutions across the country, the new grant will enable us to complete this process, ensuring all children have the opportunity to grow up in a family.

‘The IKEA Foundation believes that every child should have a safe place to call home, so we are supporting Care for Children to enable orphaned and abandoned children to grow up in loving family homes.’ - Biswarup Banerjee, Programme Manager, IKEA Foundation

About IKEA Foundation

The IKEA Foundation (Stichting IKEA Foundation) is the philanthropic arm of INGKA Foundation, the owner of the IKEA Group of companies. We aim to improve opportunities for children and youth in some of the world’s poorest communities by funding holistic, long-term programmes that can create substantial, lasting change. The IKEA Foundation works with strong strategic partners applying innovative approaches to achieve large-scale results in four fundamental areas of a child’s life: a place to call home; a healthy start in life; a quality education; and a sustainable family income, while helping these communities fight and cope with climate change.
